this & that...

Marigolds pinks

A few photos from the last few days, a summery display of vintage bits on my mantelpiece. I absolutely love the marigolds oil painting by Pauline Vincent, one of my favourites artists.
The Pink Carnations are from our local farm shop, I seem to buy a bunch every time we visit as they are really cheap and last ages.

A cup of tea while I'm reading Pretty Pastel Style, I've finally got myself a copy.

Do you remember those garden flower cigarette cards I found in a charity shop, well they were featured in the lovely Pretty Nostalgic magazine this month. It's a great magazine full of vintage inspiration.

These Hollyhocks grow by the side of my mum's house, they remind me of summer in the garden. I think I take a picture of them every year.

happy sewing

Can you believe the weather is still so hot & sunny! I can't wait to finish work each day, to spend the evenings outside. I love eating dinner in the garden and then going for a long walk over the meadow.
I have been sewing too and I've just finished some more of these sewing cases. I’ve made this one from lovely paisley fabric with a vintage lace trim and a ribbon tie.
Inside the felt pages you will find everything you need for a spot of sewing; colourful  threads, vintage buttons, hooks & eyes, needles & pins, seed beads, safety pins, lace and a few mini floral decorations.
I've added this one to my Etsy Shop ....happy sewing!

Charleston

While we were in Sussex we walked along the South Downs Way to visit Charleston House which was the home of the artists Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant. The house is filled with their artwork, which is mainly painted directly onto the walls and furniture and rooms furnished with their textiles and ceramics. It was also the country retreat of the Bloomsbury group.

We also went to Monk's House, Virginia Woolf's weekend home....all very
educational!

sewing room happenings

I found some lovely wooden shelves for my sewing room at Newbury Antiques Market, if you have never been it's so exciting and not too expensive.  There are a lot of stalls selling all sorts of vintage and retro pieces. You are bound to find something you like.

The butterflies I found when we visited Hastings for the day. They were tucked away in a bric a brac shop on the old town high street. I very nearly didn't buy them but I'm glad I did as they look great on my new shelves!

I've been photographing some of my handmade work and have just added some of my vintage floral cards to my etsy shop

So why no treat someone special and send them a beautiful handmade card or frame one up as a pretty picture.
